Welcome, again, to the Mesquite Citizen Journal, your best news source for Mesquite, Virgin Valley, and the Arizona Strip.
Some of you know that I first began the Mesquite Citizen Journal (MCJ) on July 1, 2011, as an online-only news source. I ceased operations on March 31, 2014 when my husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer and died in June that year.
It’s interesting, spooky, freaky, and perhaps prophetic, that the MCJ begins again one day after and six years later on April 1, 2020.
The Mesquite Citizen Journal will still bring the citizens and residents of the greater Virgin Valley the same great news and information for which it became the most popular news site six years ago.
What a time warp we’ve all experienced in those years.
Mesquite has a new mayor, four new council members, a new city manager, a new police chief, a new fire chief, and many other additions in that six-year span.
Some things don’t change though. The Virgin Valley Water District is still embroiled in litigation but with different names.
We’ll still be covering all these areas and more in the coming months and years.
Our motto back then was ‘Today’s local news today.’ That remains our commitment to all of you.
I am fortunate this time to have three wonderful people working along side me.
Teri Nehrenz will still report on all things in the Arizona Strip plus the Mesquite community. She will also be the web site manager and contact point for our daily calendar. If you’d like to add your event to the calendar, please let Teri know.
Linda Faas has developed an awesome reputation for her insightful articles about community events, especially the Virgin Valley High School, the arts, and human-interest stories. She is bringing all that talent to the Mesquite Citizen Journal.
Our business manager, Pam Mulligan, is onboard with us as well. She’s ready and willing to work with all our advertisers, including classified ads, to make sure their needs are met.
We are living through an incredible experience right now in our community, our state, our nation, and our world. The staff at the Mesquite Citizen Journal is dedicated to helping you and our community work through these troubled times together.
You’ll notice that some of our news categories are empty on this first day. Trust us, that won’t last long. We are working diligently to provide content in each area as time goes on.
All non-profit organizations, small businesses, and churches have an opportunity to add their names and contact information to our news site. Please contact Pam Mulligan for more details.
Just like any newspaper, we have included a puzzle page that features crossword and Sudoku puzzles that you can play in a safe, ad-free environment. They are frequently updated and refreshed so new puzzles appear all the time. It’s a great way to use some of your time.
We are providing a separate page for obituaries on the Mesquite Citizen Journal free of charge through April 30. After that, they will be a flat fee of $50 and may include all the narrative and pictures of those loved ones who are missed. Pam Mulligan can provide more information.
As you can already see on the right side of the news site, we are a great source for advertising your business or group. One of the best features we offer is the ability for readers to click-through the ad to the advertiser’s website. You can’t get that in a print newspaper. Contact Pam Mulligan or me for more information.
Money is no object in our endeavor since we don’t have any. We appreciate anyone helping us fund the MCJ operations through their advertising dollars or generous gifts.
To make sure you don’t miss a day of getting all the local news when it happens, please use our convenient sign-up box for our daily headline email. It’s free.
Once again, welcome to the old and new Mesquite Citizen Journal online-only news site.
Together, we’ll continue making Mesquite the best place in the world to live.

What a shining star in a dark night. Barbara, thank you for bringing Mesquite residents a means of awareness. Since Mesquite Local News has shuttered, we have been a little spot in the desert devoid of all tht is happening in our little oasis. Best of luck with your endeavor.
