The number of building permits issued by the City of Mesquite building department took a precipitous drop in August falling from 168 a year ago to 106 this year.
However, the valuation of those permits remained fairly steady at $6.341 million this year compared to $6.564 million last year.
Propping up the valuations were six permits issued for commercial buildings with a value of $829,466. That compares to one issued in this category in August 2019 valued at $648,000. Four of the six permits were issued for a storage complex on Agave Road and are valued at $438,938.
One permit valued at $376,488 was issued for a new retail store on West Mesquite Boulevard.
The number of permits for single family residences dropped from 23 last year to 21 this year. With that, the valuation of the permits for new homes fell to $4.928 million from $5.144 million last year.
Pulte Homes of Nevada who constructs all new homes in Sun City Mesquite took out eight permits in August. LHSC, Inc. took out six permits for new homes.
Nevada Residential Construction (NRC) took out three permits for single family residences in August. Jackson Contracting, Catamount Development, Maves Construction, Inc, and a private builder each took out one permit for new single-family homes.
The most expensive single-family home construction permit was valued at $421,824 with the least expensive permit valued at $141,726.
Nine permits were issued this August for residential modifications compared to 13 last year. Total valuations in this category dropped from $56,820 last year to $22,089 this year.
One permit for commercial modifications was issued valued at $5,760. That compares to two permits in this category valued at $27,700 the city issued last year.
The city issued three new business permits, the same number as last year.
The number of permits issued for block walls increased slightly from eight in August 2019 to 10 permits this year. The valuation of the permits also increased slightly from $110,432 last year to $130,446 this year.
The city issued six permits for swimming pools this year valued at $98,177. That’s an decrease from 11 permits issued last year valued at $179,173.
No grading or demolition permits were issued this August compared to two demolition permits issued last year but no grading permits.
