After a sizzling end of 2020, the number of building permits settled back down in January and in fact, came in much lower than a year ago.
The City of Mesquite Building Department issued 104 permits last month with a valuation of $4.943 million. In January 2020, 168 permits were issued with a valuation of $7.290 million.
The city issued only 13 permits for new home construction last month valued at $2.964 million. That was down from January 2020 when 29 permits were issued with a valuation of $6.229 million.
Pulte Homes of Nevada took out 10 of the 13 permits for new homes in Sun City Mesquite. One permit each was issued to Jackson Contracting, LLC, Maves Construction, Inc. and View Point Contractors LLC.
The most expensive single new family home permit was valued at $379,548 with the least expensive permit valued at $142,896.
Four permits for residential modifications were issued in January valued at $77,581. Nine permits for residential modifications a year ago were valued at $38,745.
The city issued eight new business permits in January up from one a year ago.
One commercial building permit was issued with a value of $119,232 for work at the new studio apartment complex on East Mesquite Boulevard near the Maverick gas station. No permits in this category were issued last year.
Three permits for commercial modifications were issued with a valuation of $206,400 compared to the same number issued in January 2020 valued at $27,424.
The number of permits issued for block walls increased from eight in January 2020 to 12 this year. One permit was issued for a new subdivision in Sun City Mesquite for new block walls valued at $1.021 million. The remaining permits brought the total value of this category to $1.108 million.
The city issued 12 permits for swimming pools in January valued at $206,017. Six permits valued at $79,585 were issued in this category last year.
One demolition permit was issued for work at 1165 West Pioneer Boulevard valued at $5,000. No permits were issued for grading work.
