Construction throughout Mesquite thrived in July even with COVID-19 pandemic restrictions still in place. The City of Mesquite Building Department issued 154 permits in July compared to 166 permits issued in July 2019.
The majority of the reduced number of permits were for miscellaneous signs, repairs, etc. with 19 fewer this year than last year.
The valuation of all permits issued in July was $9.089 million compared to $8.259 million last year.
The number of permits issued for new single-family residences increased by three from last year coming in at 37. The value of the permits was $8.098 million. That compares to $7.646 million for 34 permits in July 2019.
The city issued Pulte Homes of Nevada, who builds all the new homes in Sun City, 15 permits. Not far behind was Nevada Residential Construction (NRC) who received nine permits for new homes.
LHSC, Inc took six permits while Andrus Development took out four permits for new homes. View Point Contractors LLC, received two permits and Jackson Contracting received one permit.
Eleven permits valued at $337,624 were issued for residential modifications. That compares to last July’s 10 permits valued at $48,673.
No permits were taken for new commercial building construction. Two permits were taken out for commercial modifications valued at $174,312. One of those valued at $44,712 was for renovations at Smith’s Food and Drug. Work inside the store will continue through the fall with more major work to come, including new shelving, produce stands, flooring and a new deli.
Three new business permits were issued in July compared to five issued in July 2019.
There were 11 permits issued for swimming pools in July compared to seven last year.
Eleven permits for block walls, usually an indicator of future home construction, were issued this year compared to nine in this category last year.
One grading permit was issued by the city, but no demolition permits were issued. Last year the city issued one demolition permit but no grading permits.
