The value of building permits issued by the City of Mesquite Building Division in June dropped by almost $3 million in June in a year-over-year comparison.
The city issued 146 permits valued at $10.484 million in June 2019. This year, the city issued 152 permits valued at $7.517 million.
Most of that is attributed to a fall in permits for single family residence permits.
The 27 permits issued for single family residences this year are valued at $6.278 million. That’s a drop from 44 permits valued at $9.853 million issued in June 2019.
Nevada Residential Construction took out 10 permits for new homes while Pulte Del Webb Mesquite took out eight permits. LHSC, Inc received five permits for new homes. Jackson Contracting and Maves Construction each received one permit and private builders took out two permits.
Most of the new home construction was valued in the mid-$200,000 range. The highest valued permit was $350,454 and the lowest value was $125,736.
Comparing the first six months of 2020 to the first six months of 2019, permits for single family residences are almost even. From January to June 2019 the city issued 164 permits valued at $36.676 million. During the same time period this year, the city has issued 162 permits valued at $36.211 million.
Eighteen permits were issued for residential modifications in June with a valuation of $78,005. Last year, 11 permits were issued in this category worth $124,255.
Permits for commercial buildings were even in a year-over-year comparison at one each year. The value of last year’s permit was $95,000. The permit this year is valued at $235,719 for the new Panda Express restaurant under construction on South Falcon Ridge Parkway, next to the Sinclair gas station.
Last year, six permits were issued for commercial modifications valued at $74,450. This year, two permits were issued in this category, valued at $2000.
Three permits were taken out for new businesses compared to none issued in June 2019.
Eighteen permits for block walls, usually an indicator of future home construction, were issued this year compared to 15 issued in this category last year.
The city issued four permits for swimming pools, compared to last year’s six permits.
Two grading permits were issued, one for the Panda Express restaurant, but no demolition permits were issued.
