Spring has sprung, but it doesn’t necessarily mean old man winter won’t return in some spots, as weather has become unpredictable for millions across the U.S. this past year. However, what I do know is that birds are out singing their songs, while people are out walking their pets and landscaping projects have begun; no matter where you live, people are ready to veer out and enjoy some type of outdoor activities. The sun, along with warmer temps comes with signs of new life and hope for a better year ahead. Taking in the sights and sounds of nature increases our senses, while being beneficial to us in countless ways.
There’s nothing like taking a walk among nature, whether it’s alongside a lake, oceanfront, woods or national park trails…there’s so much to see. Recently, I’ve been watching a Hawk that sits in a tree outside my window…the beauty of this bird is all too amazing. My love for nature increased when I moved to the desert years ago; I’ve seen tarantulas on hikes, as well as road runners, wild boar, scorpions, snakes, foxes and a variety of birds ( in stunning colors). In the Midwest, nature has a bit of a different look, such as deer, ducks, possums, squirrels, etc. but all are beautiful.
Taking time to watch nature is relaxing and good for our souls. It lowers blood pressure, while increasing some feel-good hormones. Surrounding ourselves on this earth in soil, greenery and the bodies of waters provides us all with foods we consume, and the oxygen we breathe; evidence shows that inhabiting a nature-rich environment helps promote mental well-being, and is essential in every aspect of human life. It can also help us to increase our creativity by watching animals and small creatures, while having a profound impact on our brains; increasing awareness and expanding our attention capabilities. Breathing fresh air daily has a multitude of benefits, including… ample ‘down’ time for our brains (rejuvenation) while promoting happiness. It’s all good stuff.
Nature gives us humans what we need to survive, so being cognitive to it is important. Nurturing our planet is crucial for future generations, humankind, plants and animals. If you haven’t gone outdoors walking or just to take in some time to be still while watching a sunrise or sunset, you should. I recently watched a couple of sunrises, and the colorings of the skies are remarkable; fascinating and exhilarating. The beauty is unlike any other…but then again, all of nature (everything in it) has much to offer our eyes, as well as our hearts and souls. So, before rushing into the daily doldrums of life once again, don’t let nature pass you by…live, breathe and practice gratitude; life is good.
Make your week count.
