The City of Mesquite Athletics & Leisure Services Department has started the process of establishing an “Adopt-A-Bench Program.” The department is in the process of putting together a Memorial & Donation Program in which the community can participate. As part of this new program, old wooden memorial benches that are deteriorated at some locations within the City of Mesquite will be removed.
The objective of the new program is not only to remove the old benches, but to also limit the number of benches in specific areas while expanding the number of future benches in other parks and facilities. The Adopt-A-Bench Program also allows the City of Mesquite to work with local artists, families and not-for-profit organizations to better locate benches in places for people to sit and visit along the trail system and at parks and facilities.
To recognize the participants, families and loved ones of the original Memorial & Donation Program, the City has purchased and installed some of these cement benches at three prominent locations, including the Hafen Park Tennis Facility, the Flag Pole area, and the Women’s History and Culture Center at the Jimmie Hughes Campus. Next to each of the three benches is a metal plaque engraved with the names of those commemorated by the original program. The City of Mesquite thanks the participants of the Memorial & Donation Program and hopes they, their families and loved ones will enjoy these benches for years to come.
