Robert Kenneth Nielson, age 74, died Friday, April 10, 2020 at his home in Mesquite, Nevada. He was born September 18, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Adrian LeRoy and Lillie Bernice Macklin. On March 14, 1964 he married Gayle-Ann Christensen in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had two children and were later divorced. On September 17, 1999 he married Colleen Beth Coon in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bob grew up in Salt Lake City. He spent his early married life working as an engineer for the Granite school district. Needing a change, he moved to Illinois where he worked at a small community college. After eleven years, he retired to Mesquite, Nevada where he was the Chief Engineer for the Eureka Hotel and Casino.
Bob developed a fascination with studying the weather. He enjoyed running a website called mesquiteweather.com when he moved to Mesquite. He enjoyed boating, 4-wheelin’ and exploring the desert searching for petroglyphs.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen of Mesquite, NV; son, Larry (Jennifer) of Chandler, AZ; daugther, Pamela Larsen of Salt Lake City, UT; three step daughters: Wendy (Ryan) Gibbons of S. Jordan, UT; Julie (Scott) Piotter of New Ulm, MN; Mindie (Scott) Gibbons of S. Jordan, UT; 16 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, LeRoy (Carol) Nielson and one sister, Kathy (Mike) Lundquist both of Mesquite, Nevada. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, one brother and one sister.
Graveside services will be Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 1 p.m. (MST) at the Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 W. 4100 S., West Valley City, Utah. Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.virginvalleymortuary.com
