On Aug. 4 Mohave County neglected to elect a new sheriff.
What some Arizona Strip residents suspected would happen did happen.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) has forgotten Susan and Jerry McFalls.
Susan and Jerry McFalls Sr. went missing from their Desert Springs home on or around Jan. 11.
Their bodies were found off Black Rock Rd. in a shallow grave.
Their remains were decimated by wild animals and the elements.
The case has been ongoing for over two and a half years with zero progress.
I reached out to the MCSD a week ago with the following questions:
“It’s been over two and a half years, have they at least been able to clear any suspects? Any at all, but David Myhaver specifically. They haven’t made an arrest…can he at least be publicly cleared of this investigation?”
“Have any other suspects been identified specifically other than Myhaver?”
“Who are the specific suspects?”
MCSD has not answered these questions nor have they acknowledged the email.
Arizona Strip residents should have known when at the town hall meeting on July 21 Sheriff Schuster said, “While I was on my way here, I received a text from the family asking me, “Please don’t bring this up. We’re very happy with what the sheriff’s office is doing, this is just causing us pain.’”
Sheriff Schuster said he has, or the office has, been in constant contact with the family.
In contrast, prior interviews with several media outlets tell a different tale. The family has expressed their displeasure at the MCSDs handling of the case and especially their lack of communication.
Sheriff Schuster said, “We have put more man hours on this case than any other case that I’ve been involved with in 30 years.”
It’s been two years eight months and twelve days and they have yet to either arrest or formally release the prime suspect in the case.
They have yet to name anyone other than the original suspect in the case.
MCSD said, “Nobody has been ruled out as a suspect.” They have not specified names of who exactly “Nobody” is. Since we live in the area, are we to assume that we are also suspect?
On July 21, Sheriff Schuster called out Fugitive Recovery Specialist, David Bounsall, for stirring up the community.
I can assure the community that the only reason anything has been stirred up is because of David Bounsall.
Stirring up this case is not a bad thing.
Bounsall came onto the case when it was just a missing persons investigation.
He was at once accepted and praised over and over by Meridee and Jerry McFalls Jr. for his excellent work and dedication to the case.
While the next-door neighbor was the prime suspect, everything with Bounsall was great.
When Bounsall started shifting his focus and his suspicions, Meridee and Jerry Jr. no longer wanted Bounsall involved.
Things were posted to social media sites which the family was not happy about. One of the things mentioned were polygraph tests.
When pressed about taking polygraph tests, Meridee McFalls called Bounsall with questions and answers that caused more suspicion.
Bounsall said, “Meridee asked about polygraphs, whether they are taken seriously because they aren’t admissible in court.”
Bounsall gave his answers to Meridee, suggested she and Jerry Jr. take the polygraphs but Meridee said, “I can pass one, I wasn’t even there but Jerry…he’s too nervous to pass one.”
Meridee McFalls also told social media followers that she and Jerry Jr. would be happy to take one but MCSD did not offer them.
Mohave County stated, “Polygraphs are being offered to all persons directly related to this investigation and are being scheduled with those who are willing to cooperate with the investigation.”
Are there some family members that are not being cooperative?
MCSD also stated, “Follow up investigations are still being conducted to determine the person or person responsible for the murder.”
Their follow up investigations, if there are follow up investigations, seem to be going nowhere.
Still MCSD refuses to name witnesses other than Myhaver. In two years and eight months they have not cleared him either.
Each time the MCSD has previously stated, “No one has been ruled out as suspects in this case.”
The community is asking, “Who exactly is ‘nobody?’ They have not specified.”
It would seem that “nobody” does not want this investigation to move forward either.
Certain family members have tried their best to stifle the interest.
A memorial was held in Beaver Dam on the two-year anniversary which some family members were eager to attend while Meridee McFalls tried her hardest to stop it through social media channels.
It seems that Bounsall might know too much for certain family members’ comfort.
Bounsall has turned over quite a bit of evidence that the detectives had neglected to discover, names of witnesses that detectives have neglected to interview and information that they have neglected to follow up on.
Bounsall is the only one still drawing attention to the case or seeking justice for Susan and Jerry’s brutal murder.
Bounsall said what motivates him in this case is his imagination of the betrayal Jerry and Susan must have felt facing their murderers; they knew them.
He said, “Imagine their last thought being Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is going to be investigating this case and this is how our justice is going to be sought. Just think of how hopeless they must have felt in those final minutes. I think of the hopeless abyss that must have been present just before they were buried in that cold shallow grave in the middle of the desert. I imagine how I would want justice if it were my mom and dad.”
It seems to me, in the case they have spent more hours on than any other, they have neglected to care about.
The Arizona Strip is and has been the stepchild of Mohave County and this case is being treated no differently than any other case involving Mohave County officials in any capacity. It is simply being ignored.
If after two years, eight months and twelve days they have neglected to make a move either way on their primary suspect, they simply are not doing their jobs.
A man’s reputation lies in their hands and they leave him in limbo.
The lives of two people have been horribly snuffed out and justice for them also lies in limbo.
The community is still wondering if after two years, eight months and twelve days a murderer or murderers are living among them.
If MCSD has spent more hours than any other on this case, I am wondering what happens to the cases they do not put a lot of time into.
