President Biden on Thursday announced a set of executive actions and legislative proposals on gun control, saying that gun violence is “a public health crisis” and that his administration’s actions do not violate Second Amendment rights. – I would not recommend placing any bet on that statement, it’s a lot like him working together “to make bipartisan laws.”
Biden also said: “But no amendment to the Constitution is absolute … From the very beginning, you couldn’t own any weapon you wanted to own. From the very beginning, the Second Amendment existed certain people weren’t allowed to have weapons. The idea is just bizarre to suggest that some of the things we’re recommending are contrary to the Constitution.” – I do not know about others but I did not see anything in the founding documents that limited citizens from owning any type of gun.
It is so nice that V.P. Harris said “I’ve seen with my own two eyes what a bullet can do to the human body … and I’ve fought my entire career to fight this violence and to pass reasonable gun safety” measures,” – Why do you not take away guns from criminals?
“We should also ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in this country,” Biden said. He said “there’s no reason” a person would need a weapon that can hold one hundred rounds.” Makes you wonder how many people actually buy that big of a magazine. However, that is not the size he was talking about, he is planning 10 round magazine limits.
But the worst of all is his try to eliminate gun manufacturers from the immunity they received under the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, a law that prevents gunmakers from being sued for crimes committed with guns they sell legally. By removing that protection, they would be responsible for any crazy using a gun. Let’s apply it to cars, if you speed and kill someone the car manufacturer would also be liable. How about knife manufactures?
“This is the only outfit that is exempt from being sued,” Biden said. That is simply not true. They can be sued for defects but not for the action of a third person. So, activists trying to sue them in courts all over the country is an attempt to break them financially so this law was enacted to stop that phony tactic.
Republicans, meanwhile, have expressed their suspicion that Biden’s true agenda goes much further than what he announced. “By appointing the anti-gun Merrick Garland as attorney general and nominating David Chipman — formerly a senior staffer at the leading gun control lobby to head ATF, Biden has made clear his sights are set on restricting the rights of law-abiding gun owners while ignoring criminals and foregoing substantive measures that will actually keep Americans safe,” the National Rifle Association (NRA) said in a statement.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.: “President Biden plans to announce his attempts to trample over our 2nd amendments rights by executive fiat. He is soft on crime, yet infringes on the rights of law-abiding citizens. I won’t stand for it. And neither will House Republicans. Follow the Constitution!” – I sure hope they have the guts to stand up this time.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said, “The answer is not to restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, the answer is to go after violent criminals and come down on them like a ton of bricks.”
All of this makes you wonder why they do not prosecute criminals to the maximum, who use illegally obtained guns or any gun to the full extent of the law instead of trying to take guns from those who want to protect their families and themselves.

JESUS GOD… STOP trying to tell US this will take away OUR guns…THIS CRAP IS A LIE!
Read what the laws want – NOT WHAT people say they will do!
Mike Stevens says
He and others in his party have specifically said that they want to take away my guns. You are delusional or deliberately lying to say otherwise
KURT P CHENCHICK says
Mike Young, you are the most disruptive contributor to this site. Your thoughts of what you BELIEVE will happen vs what is ACTUALLY proposed is not fact. Sorry you feel Trump lost by pushing lies of a stolen election with court cases presenting no evidence that held merit, but that is no reason to make up lies on what the gun control bill will include. As for assault weapons, You live in a city where the Las Vegas mass shooter lived. If you really believe assault weapons are needed to protect your property, talk to the families of those that died that day and convince them the need for such a weapon.
Nike Stevens says
The most disruptive contributor is Terry Donnelly as he doesn’t even live here. As for “assault weapons”, there is no such thing. Assault is a verb. A knife used to stab and kill someone does not get called an assault knife because it was used in an assault. By FAR the mass shootings have been done with handguns, not rifles. Just the big and publicized ones were done with semi-automatic rifles. They were big and publicized because of media making them big and publicized
Steven Balek says
Kurt,
Mike is presenting a very important topic and he is right about this. I suggest you look into our Neighboring Country Mexico where guns are outlawed and yet the Cartels and Criminals have them and rule over many towns and cities. If you recall there was a big war between the Cartels and Government Police & Soldiers a few years ago and the Cartel got its way as the Police and Soldiers were forced to back off. Is this what you want to see here in America? I am a law abiding Gun Owner and do carry often during these crazy times.
I suggest you think very hard about this: If just one person in that Bolder CO. Grocery Store was carrying there would have been a lot fewer deaths and maybe none as most of the deranged people that prey on unarmed Citizens are Cowards and if anyone starts shooting back they turn and run. I carry because I want to be prepared in case one of these deranged people decide to do the same anywhere I’m at and I can hopefully save lives, including my own. By the time police arrive the situation could well be under control. You can’t have a armed guard everywhere you go and the Police as good as they are, can’t be everywhere in a seconds notice. It only takes a few seconds to injure or kill many.
Mike Stevens says
The true answer to control and mass shootings is tougher penalties and stop glorifying the murdered by posting their stories. Automatic death penalty for 1st degree murder would stop quite a bit of it. And having CNN run a continuous loop of some guy shooting up some place incentivized other sick criminals to do the same and get famous
Taking my guns away is NOT the answer!!!
“Shall not be infringed”
Doug Anderson says
Well regulated? There are no absolutes in a society.
Chris Fields says
For decades they, Republicans, have told us that Democrats are going take our guns away. The gun retailers love it when that talking point is made because it’s a big payday. The talking heads in our nation’s capital each need to tell us how we can solve this tragic problem in country.
mike young says
Chris – You’re so right it is a a tragic problem, but not putting people away for a long, long time for committing a crime with a gun is a solution. It has been tried several places and it reduced crimes very significantly. Letting people back on the streets, which is being done with no bail, is the wrong way to go. Then excusing bad behavior because of …. only leads to even worse behavior and that seems the way some cities are going.
Gary Lapple says
Has anyone else noticed “mass shooting” have increased in conjunction with Biden and the democrat’s push for gun control?
Must be Trump’s fault.
Gary Lapple says
Mike Young,
“But no amendment to the Constitution is absolute … ” That to me sir that is the most insane, traitorous thing a President has ever said. What is of great concern is democrats see The Bill of Rights as a problem for their agenda of control. If the 2nd can be dismissed so can all the other rights.
David Petrillo says
Any amendment can be amended, repealed or eliminated. Prohibition is one that comes to mind. Second, how many guns have been taken away in the last 50 years? It seems to me that the NRA likes to keep you scared when in reality there is nothing to be afraid of. Liberals, by definition, believe in individual rights including owning a gun. However, the government sets the limits on what type of gun. Are you allowed to own an anti tank rocket? An anti aircraft gun? A ground to air missile? Just make sure you know who the active shooter is before you open fire at Walmart. Our lives depend on it.
Jimmy Wike says
Steven Balek makes an important point about Mexico. In the early 1900’s the Mexican government confiscated guns from the citizenry as a result of Pancho Villa’s and some other renegades attempt to usurp authority. Very quickly the Mexican people lost their institutional knowledge of firearms and fell prey to the corruption of the Federales. After 50-60 years of being at the mercy of the Federales, the Cartels moved in and further imposed their will on the defenseless people. I’m sure the advocates for gun control will say that is not their intent, but it’s much easier to control an unarmed population, which is why China, Russia, and so many other countries have done it.
KURT CHENCHICK says
Steven Balek , you seem to not understand what I am saying. I do NOT endorse taking away our guns. I endorse banning assault rifles and I agree with your views on carry and reasons for people to protect themselves. But I do not think machine guns or assault rifles should be available to every citizen. There are Swat teams, Military, and a select few that should be able to have them, but not everyone in the USA.
Bill Bishop says
I find it hard to believe anyone takes what Mike Young says seriously. If you look at EVERY opinion he has put on the MCJ, it is clear he is the most devisive, negative, condescending person trying to foment trouble within our little community.
NO ONE IS GOING TO TAKE AWAY ANYONES GUNS. Period. End of story. It has been the Republican mantra for 50 years and not one gun has been taken. I would suggest Young writes about the threat of armed militias, boogaloo boys, three percenters, etc. Now, there’s a threat. When there is a mass shooting in this country EVERY DAY, instead of offering solutions, clowns like Mike Young try to show his intelligence by drumming up old, tired party propaganda. It’s a shame the MCJ has to publish such trash.
Martin Locke says
The MCJ deserves better than agitators like Mr Young. He puts himself firmly with the likes of the Bundys, Ronald Sandlin and Nathaniel DeGrave. Homegrown violent extremism is on the rise, even here in Nevada and Youngs rambling recitations of Republican sound bites serves no one in Mesquite. Methinks Young needs to get a life (or move to Texas where they like this junk). For someone whose never served in the military, Young talks tough but contributes little to making our community safer.
