Overturned Immigration Policies that stemmed the flow of illegal aliens and caravans from Central America. One of his first steps was to welcome 25,000 asylum-seekers, who had been held in Mexico until their immigration hearings. These people were allowed to cross the border and scatter so we will most likely not be able to find them when they do not show up for their scheduled hearings. Of course, this was just the first group and because there were so many, the border patrol was unable to test them for COVID-19 like we do to people entering legally. Lucky for them they will get free (To Them) medical care and guess who pays the bill? The border states will soon witness chaos of even more illegals as they are being released in the states where found. We do not live in a border state, so who cares?
Killing the Keystone Pipeline, wiping out more than 10 thousand union jobs even though earlier studies, done during the Obama Administration, showed the pipeline would have minimal environmental impact. Biden has also stopped new drilling leases on federal lands, which will kill revenues for many states that depend on that income. The left’s attack on energy will eventually cause oil output to drop and we can import more from our enemies at higher prices. Then gasoline and oil prices will rise and who does it hurt the most? Low-income Americans. But if you can afford it, who cares?
Support the teacher’s unions over the needs of families, and especially women, especially single mothers trying to earn a living. His refusal to order teachers back on the job and ignoring any science saying that schools can open safely is repayment for union support, but a blow to unemployed workers forced to stay home and care for their kids. Not to mention the great harm done to the kids who are out of school. And if we refused to go back to work, we would no longer get paid; why are they?
Change Middle East policy by supporting re-entering the failed Iran nuclear treaty. Actively undermines the past’s administration’s extraordinary progress in the Middle East by temporarily freezing arms sales to the UAE which were part of the deal. The arms were to support UAE resistant to Iran’s aggressive policies. He has not bothered to even call Israel’s Prime Mister, Benjamin Netanyahu. This is the returning to past Obama’ policies of not supporting Israel. But of course, China is our new friend after getting rid of all those sanctions that help American businesses.
Working Across the Aisle, ignoring all objections by forcing through the absurd $1.9 trillion aid package with no GOP votes. Was it not a campaign promise to work with the Republicans? This is a budget-busting deal even though almost one trillion dollars has not been spent from prior packages. Only 25% of this money is in the checks; the rest is a reckless bailout of blue state governments that are getting more money than they lost simply to make up for their debt, built up over the years of mis-management. Our economy is already rebounding, this is just buying votes.
Lockdowns and forced Mask wearing regardless of what science has discovered. Some of the masks with things painted on them are cute and some attractive. This could be the most popular one, but I can’t enjoy the fantasy if I’m on lockdown. I just wish I could hear better when people talk when wearing the masks but if I’m on lockdown who cares?
Please let me know your favorite whether Republican, Democrat or Independent. It will be fun to see what people like the most.

Mr. Young, you are correct on all counts. I would sum it up by adding one overarching observation: Based on Biden’s first month in office It is abundantly clear that his administration does not intend to be non-divisive, or bipartisan, or to “follow the science”, or to open our schools anytime soon, or to maintain our energy independence, or to maintain a strong foreign policy posture, or to control the flow of illegals coming across our southern border. In short, Biden, by way of most of his key cabinet appointments and the content of his executive orders, has made it abundantly clear he has either learned little from his nearly 50 years in Washington and, as a consequence, is horribly misdirected – or his priority is something other than the well being of most Americans.

I think we can now formally and officially declare that “It’s not about the children” We’ve been told for years that every time the Teachers Union wanted to leverage something from the taxpayers that “It’s about the children” This was best said with a Kathryn Hepburn-esque quivering voice inflection. Also effective were “If we can save one child” then it was worth the billions and billions (best said with a Carl Sagan voice inflection) that were necessary for the education of our children. As it turns out we can now reword that phraseology to “It’s about the Teachers Union” (still with the Hepburn-esque inflection) or more aptly “If we can save one teacher” and the children be dammed.
I have heard some people try and delineate the teachers from the union but the union is made up of teachers and they vote whether to strike or go back to teaching, etc. Observationally I would also qualify that all teachers are not a monolithic group and I would think that teachers in rural or smaller communities are more likely to be involved with those communities and with the parents of those they teach. At least that’s how it appears to me in the Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley areas. I also don’t know if the teachers in these two districts are even members of the union.
In any event, I don’t believe the education process in this country is being benefitted by this administration. I’m sure most of us are aware and many can recite the litany of problems and the solutions to those problems but those efforts and thoughts run contrary to a political expediency and will not be considered. I was not a good student although I did manage to muddle my way through our education system, but in retrospect I do look fondly back on the time when “It really was about the children”.

Thank you for your opinion/comments. I do not think that we are dealing with the Joe Biden of years past, but rather with behind the scenes extremist liberals who are manipulating a a mentally declining individual to their liking. I seriously underestimated the consequences of this Administration and Congress when I initially thought the country could be destroyed before the 2022 election. They’re going to get it done in months, not years.

Getting us back on track. Period. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Schools back in session SOON, if only hybrid….its a start. Ppl are finally getting the immunization needed for this dreadful disease. Getting ppl relief that were affected by the pandemic. Less negativity. So its def better than the past year of drama. I guess its just time for everyone to accept defeat and move on with their lives, eh? Seems like ppl are really struggling. Like sitting around hating, bashing Biden? What is that going to do? Nothing. But if that’s how ppl choose to live being bitter and angry….more power to you ♥️. Blessings.
Good news from CCSD today!!
A message from CCSD Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara
The safety and wellbeing of students and staff is top priority. Comprehensive Health and Safety procedures are outlined in CCSD’s Hybrid Instructional Model Implementation Guide available online in English and Spanish at reconnect.ccsd.net.
Governor Sisolak’s easing of restrictions last week has provided an expedited route to open our schools and that is what we intend to do. The team immediately started to work on what the change in restrictions means for our students, including a date for each grade level to return to school.
CCSD Opening Timeline
March 1 – All Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 3 students can return to face-to-face instruction under the hybrid instructional model
March 22 – Grades 6, 9, & 12 can return to face-to-face instruction under the hybrid instructional model
April 6 – Grades 7, 8, 10 & 11 can return to face-to-face instruction under the hybrid instructional model
April 6 – Pre-Kindergarten through grade 5 can return to five days a week face-to-face instruction
We will continue to offer a full-time distance education option to our families who feel more comfortable keeping their children at home.
Athletics & Extracurricular Activities
The District is also working to allow students to participate in athletics and extracurricular activities.
Spring Sports
Practices begin April 3, 2021
Competitions begin April 16, 2021
Sports include: boys and girls track, boys and girls swimming, boys and girls diving, baseball, softball, boys golf and boys volleyball
Intramural Fall Sports
April 5 – May 1, 2021
Football
Full contact competition
20 days of practice culminating in a one hour intrasquad competition
Football Intramural window is earlier to allow for the yearly helmets and pads to be reconditioned in time for the regular 2021-22 fall season
May 3 – 22, 2021
Sports include: boys and girls tennis, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls cross country and girls volleyball
Staggered to avoid forcing students to choose a single sport
These intramural/intrasquad sports will have a 20 day practice/competition window
No spectators will be allowed at any CCSD athletics events
School athletics will follow all guidelines from CCSD, the state, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA)
Performing Arts
Students will be able to engage in live learning and traditional rehearsals
Safety protocols will be implemented to ensure the safest possible return to face-to-face instruction
Similar to athletics, students will be permitted to engage in outside of class activities and rehearsals like, marching band, drill team, theater
To ensure continued safety of our community, performing arts classes will have the option of engaging in streamed concerts for the immediate future
Reopening schools, bringing back staff and students, and continuing a distance education model requires a lot of logistics and consideration. I ask for your patience as I continue to work with the Board of School Trustees to bring back all students and staff to face-to-face instruction safely.

Another thought. Whether we agree with the policy’s of the current administration or not, I would think that most of us would understand the thought process behind them. Sometimes it’s pure ideology, sometimes it’s rewarding constituencies, or maybe even punishing constituencies for opposition or past grievances. We might not like them, but we know where they’re coming from. There is however, one policy that defies logical explanation and that is President Biden’s EO that allows biological males to compete in women’s sports. It runs contrary to the administrations stated goals of empowering women along with others, and appears to me to be extremely detrimental to gender equality and equity. I have a hard time believing that this idea originated with President Biden and it solidifies for me the thought that he is not really in control of the narrative or his Presidency. I can understand why a certain group would applaud the action, but not at the potential expense of disenfranchising such a large and valuable voting bloc.
Jack Rochford says
Agreed. 👍

Mike,
I certainly hope the judge in Texas can hold his ground and stops the mass illegal immigration from flowing across their border. I think the Texas Attorney General will take it all the way to the Supreme Court to stop them from being over impacted like before. Unfortunately with the liberal Chief Supreme Court Justice it may not help but maybe with Amy Coney Barrett we’ll have a chance. It would be smart if other Republican Governors to join this lawsuit to protect their border states (Arizona). Maybe California and New Mexico can absorb all the newly Biden immigrants (we can’t use the term illegal anymore according to the Biden admin). With all this new found money California’s going to get they will have plenty to spend ( not to help the homeless vets or just the homeless Americans that were born here or came across the borders legally) but at least as you so rightly say, those that don’t follow the laws will be taken care of, in the state of California it’s just the citizens of Ca. that get the shaft.
Mike Stevens says
Well spoken!!! They said Trump was a totalitarian, yet here is Biden signing executive order after executive order, demonstrating what a TRUE totalitarian looks like. No compromise, no reaching across the aisle, just call half the country an “extremist” and a “racist”. Zero unity, pure partisan dictatorship
Bob Gollwitzer says
At 88 it is so sad to see our great nation going downhill already. Gas in NV has already gone up close to 50 cents over UT gas prices. This is just the start of job losses, uneducated school kids, border crossings & businesses leaving the USA. Where do they think all the money is coming from. They never should have left the school teachers, etc be unionized. They forget that it is the taxpayer who pays them. In the private sector most of them would have been fired for poor work. The good ones never get better pay so they leave the system. Now that the election is over everything about the virus appears to be getting better (strange).
Lee Harper says
I will have to side with the GOP on this one.

Congratulations, Mr. Young for writing what many American patriots feel every day. My favorite by far is the promotion of illegal immigration. Although, I am not certain that the word “illegal” is at all representative these days. How can an act be illegal if it comes at the behest of an American president? Liberals have long salivated at the possibility of providing themselves a voting bloc undefeatable by the Constitutional sensibilities of the average American citizen. Let us hope that trillion dollar stimuli becomes routine, because I fear tax payer wages are about to take a big drop.
Cindy Banks says
Oh, Don, I couldn’t resist. It is easy for President to make illegal orders. If he is not following our Constitution and laws then it is illegal on its face. We have immigration laws and he is ignoring them after President Trump had restored them.
Gary Hegeman says
Don’t forget rejoining the WHO and the Paris Climate Agreement. How horrible can it get? I’m sure glad some 80 million people don’t think these and other things President Biden is doing are so horrible!

That is for next weeks column.
Pamela Gillick says
Agree with Jack Rochford above. Especially, the last line, “the country won’t last until 2022.” The fake money printing press running 24/7 will have us $35 Trillion in debt, just at the end of Xiden’s first year. By election time 2022, add another $6-7T and that spells the end of the US dollar and the end of the USA.
Pamela Gillick says
Mike, I hope you’re going to write a column on how the Green New Deal worked for Texas last week. Frozen windmills and solar panels covered with ice and snow and they came within 4 minutes of a total grid collapse, which would have paralyzed the state for months. Add to that Xiden’s order to disallow the coal (the 1 or 2 that are left) and natural gas plants to ramp up for the coming storm due to “environmental damage.” With your knowledge about the power industry, it would be interesting to hear your take.
Cindy Banks says
Mike, Your column is just wonderul. It makes the points so well, that we are quite sure he was not elected. I have seen one person like what was done by Biden and the rest are against. That says it all. Makes me wonder what happened here too.
